Thursday, April 26- Fine Arts Night Although students do not have homework this week, please check agendas for teacher notes. Grammar: We are continuing to work on our “Research” unit which will conclude after Milestones with the 5th grade Living Museum. We started this unit by reviewing and using all the different types of reference materials (dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, almanac, encyclopedia, and online resources). Students will be choosing their person for the Living Museum and research this week. Reading: Students will be receiving their next novel study book this week. This book is a historical fiction based on WWII. The books are Number the Stars, Behind the Bedroom Wall, or Code Talkers. Students have received their April book log. Students need to have read two, 150 page books, or one, 300+ page book (preapproved by me). Please remind your student to stay caught up on their reading. Book logs must be signed by parents. This will be due on May 1st. Spelling: Students will be receiving the spelling list on Wednesday. The quiz for this list will not be until Milestone testing has finished. Important Dates:

This week we will learn what a bibliography is and how to write one. We will also review context clues, multiple meaning words, commas, and verb tenses this week and next. Writing: We have finished learning about the three genres needed for 5th grade (narrative, informational, and opinion). So, we are now starting to review for Milestones by spending approximately two weeks on each genre. We have reviewed all three genres prior to spring break. This week we will review the structures of all three prior to milestone testing. Reading: There is a class novel for this unit (Out of the Dust or Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry). The novel study test will be on Wednesday, April 11. Students have received their April book log. Students need to have read two, 150 page books, or one, 300+ page book (preapproved by me).
