Where did time go? This has been a great year so far, and I cannot wait to see what the 2nd semester has in store! I hope you have a wonderful Winter Break. December 18---Book Log Due December 19--- Media Center December 20--- Synonym/Antonym/Homonym Test December 20--- Health Movie- Inside Out. Please return permission slips ASAP December 20--- Winter Party 12:30-1:15 December 21-January 6---Winter Break January 7--- First Day 2nd Semester Spelling: We will pass out list 6 in January after the Winter Break. Grammar: This week we will wrap up our Synonyms, Antonyms and Homonyms unit. For this unit, your child will need to be able to identify and use synonyms, antonyms and homonyms (homographs and homophones) correctly within a sentence. Students will practice using context clues to decipher between the homophones and homographs. Students will also use synonyms and antonyms to decipher analogies. Students will have notes in their binders, their grammar notebooks, and on Google Classroom. The test is Thursday, December 20th. I have decided to move the test to Thursday to allow an extra day to study/prepare. If your student will not be in school, please let me know. Writing: This week we will writing a fun narrative about being stuck in a snow globe. J After the winter break we will begin our Opinion Writing unit. Reading: We wrapped up our non-fiction text structure unit last week. The next unit will be on Folklore. Students will explore the genre of folklore by reading dramas, folktales, myth, fairytales, fables, and legends. We will be working with story elements, comparing and contrasting various story types, and themes. Stay tuned for more information on this unit in January. If you would like extra practice for your child at home, visit the Launchpad website launchpad.fultonschools.org. There are many useful links available. One is a link for i-Ready. Your child may use this link for i-Ready for additional practice at home. Please monitor your child’s monthly Book Log. Students are required to read one, 150 page book in December. The Book Log should be signed by a parent, and it, along with the completed book review, are due Tuesday, December 18th. It must have a parent’s signature to be considered complete. If there is not a signature, it will be considered incomplete and late.
