Parents- PLEASE make sure you are signing your child’s agenda daily. Homework along with teacher notes are here daily. Thank you for your support! Wednesday, January 30 – Lunch Bunch Thursday, January 31 – Book Log Due Friday, February 1 – Dolvin’s Math Night & Box Tops Spelling: Spelling list #7 came home today. We will have the quiz in about two weeks. Their lists should stay in their binders through the school year. Remember to study both the spelling and the definitions. If you would like for your child to have extra practice with their spelling words, they may use Spelling City website. https://www.spellingcity.com/users/bfhogan5 Grammar: We are in the middle of our unit on verbs and verb tense. This unit will cover action verbs (direct objects and singular/plural spellings), linking verbs, helping verbs, verb phrases, subject-verb agreement, participles, and the 6 tenses (past, present, future, past-perfect, present-perfect, and future-perfect). The 6th graders will also be learning about transitive/intransitive phrases, predicate nominatives, infinitives, and gerunds. There will be a unit test at the end of next week. Students have notes in their journals to help them study. There are several grammar games under the links tab for verb tense and for the 6th grade verb skills. Writing: We are continuing our unit on opinion writing. This week, we will finish working through an opinion essay based on a passage we read last week from Time for Kids article titled Bug Bites. Students will revise and edit this essay after conferencing. Students will have Write Score on Thursday. Reading: We are continuing the unit on reading that includes Dramatic Literature & Folk Lore. This week we’ll continue the structural elements, how to identify the story elements in a folktale and legend, characteristics, and story elements found in folklore (including legends, folk tales, myths, tall tales, fables, and fairy tales). There will not be a class novel for this unit, so for their January Book Logs, all students will need to read two chapter books of their choice and complete two book reviews. IF your child is participating in Lunch Bunch this month, they may use that as one of the two books. These will be due on Thursday, January 31. For sixth graders, one of these two books needs to be chosen from a selection of 6th grade texts in my classroom. If you would like extra practice for your child at home, visit the Launchpad website launchpad.fultonschools.org. There are many useful links available. One is a link for i-Ready. Your child may use this link for i-Ready for additional practice at home.
