Important Dates:
Monday, September 25-29 IOWA testing Friday, September 29- September Book Log Due Thursday, October 5, 6, 9- Students out of school Wednesday, October 18- Picture Day Spelling: Students will be getting the next spelling list later this week. Grammar: Last week we learned all the rules for writing quotations different ways (whether direct quote or divided quote). We will continue to review these this week and will have a unit summative test at the end of the unit on Friday 9/22. Students can use the rules in their grammar journals to study. After commas/quotation marks, we will be moving on to conjunctions. Writing: We are continuing to practice techniques: adding in transitions, vivid verbs, and specific nouns, and the different plot techniques such as foreshadowing, tension, sequential order, flashback, and suspense. All of these strategies, we are continuing to practice implementing these into our writings. Reading: This week we are continuing to read our first novel which is either Old Yeller, Island of the Blue Dolphin, or Call of the Wild depending on your child’s reading level. This week we will continue to learn about figurative language and apply these skills to our novel study. Also, don’t forget to ask your child about the requirements off the monthly Book Log (should be in their binders). The Book Log should be signed by a parent, and it, along with the completed book review, are due Friday, September 29. It will only be accepted if signed by parent so we can make sure the book was read and finished at home.
